Discussion WebThe discussion web gives all students an opportunity to share their ideas in discussion after reading a common text. Using the discussion web, students think about and write down the items from the text they want to share in the discussion.

How do I use it?
1. Select a text that can generate opposing viewpoints about a topic.
2. Introduce the discussion web with the relevant discussion question in the central circle.
3. Model how to construct support for both viewpoints by citing specific reasons and filling them in on the organizer.
4. Have students read the text and add to the graphic organizer.
5. Have partners share ideas for each viewpoint.
6. In small groups, have them compare and discuss notes. They should then form a conclusion to share with the class.
